Driftless Destinations

Tim Hyma
Sparta Area Chamber of Commerce created six motorcycle routes in a five county area with 88 destinations.
Driftless Destinations is a five county project intended to boost tourism in Western Wisconsin. Motorcycling is growing in popularity across the country, making this an ideal time for regional partnerships to capture more of this tourist travel. The rolling hills of Jackson, La Crosse, Monroe, Trempealeau and Vernon Counties in Western Wisconsin provide wonderful opportunities for avid and amateur motorcyclist alike. Bordered on the west by the beautiful Mississippi River and known as the seven rivers region, western Wisconsin is home to numerous natural attractions, historical sites, and tourist friendly small towns. The winding roads that were built for the dairy industry make the area a natural draw for motorcyclists. There is great potential to increase tourism in this region by adding additional marketing efforts towards motorcycling vacationers. Because motorcycling is more than a one-season sport, it is an ideal way to improve shoulder season travel. What better way to lighten spring fever or enjoy the vibrant colors of autumn than riding through the natural beauty of western Wisconsin? In addition to adding onto the front and back end of the summer season, we will promote more mid-week travel during the summer months by working with lodging establishments to offer discounts to travelers who reserve rooms Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.
