Care Bear

Providing Teddy Bears for both Police and Fire Departments for children they encounter while on calls.
The Miramar Pembroke Pines Regional Chamber of Commerce was seeking out a program to enhance the aspect of community partner. While the Chamber primarily works for the business community we sought out for a community project that could have impact long term for our residents. We decided that under our "Chamber for Good" program we would launch a Care Bear program providing Teddy Bears to police and fire departments to give children in distress when encountered. After gaining information from both police and fire departments in the two cities we serve we purchased the teddy bears and provided them to the departments. The bears with shirts averaged $5.75 per/bear. We went out one time at a breakfast for sponsors to purchase over 288 initial bears and was able to cover the cost and have money for the next order. We saw new sponsors come out to support this effort also. We presented the bears at a membership breakfast, commission meetings and at the police and fire halls. We made sure to get the word out that our Chamber wanted to take care of those children when they need it the most. The launch of this program was in January 2015. We have received emails and letters of support for this effort. Those that donated to the program were placed on our website as community partners.
