Blues Brews and BBQ Festival

To create an innovative event in the "slow" season to unite Chamber member participation across the area and to make profit for our members.
Punta Gorda Fl has long been recognized as a small city devastated by a category 4 ( some say 5) hurricane in 2004. The Punta Gorda Chamber rose like a phoenix from the ashes to be at the forefront of revitalizing the city, post this terrible storm, and to put us back on the map as a vibrant gulf coast city, that has now been lauded as "one of the best small cities in America" to work, visit or retire. Due to the many festivals promoted by the Chamber and the community effort of many, our November- May season is now almost SOLD OUT every year, so our focus was redirected to the slow season of June-September, which is when our members need us the most. We created a brand new, relatively easy to produce, festival entitled Blues, Brews and BBQ, that not only brought a significant number of out of town visitors, staying over the entire weekend, but united various pockets of our city in collaborating together to produce a showcase event for everyone to be proud of. Keeping the entry fee to an affordable $30, we presented our guests with national class Blues artists while giving them over 70+ craft ales to savor and sample during the course of the event. Local restaurants banded together to offer a varied BBQ challenge, which carried on post-event at their locations across the city.
